PTL Constitution 2022-23
 

Article I: Name

The name of this organization shall be St. John’s Lutheran Parent Teacher League (PTL).

Article II: Purpose

The purpose of the St. John’s Lutheran Parent Teacher League is to support the ministry and programs of the school through a parent volunteer system, so the parents and teachers can effectively work together in communicating, educating, and financially supporting the mission of St. John’s Lutheran School.  Using God’s Word as our guide we will work to promote a better partnership between parents and teachers on everyday problems.  The PTL is not a policy-making body and therefore falls under the guidance and authority of the St. John’s Board of Education. 

To promote a better understanding between parents and teachers on everyday problems with God’s Word as our guide.  To give our wholehearted support and encouragement to the Board of Education and our teachers in all their work for the betterment and welfare of the school.  The PTL, when it sees fit, may make respectful suggestions and recommendations to the Board of Education or congregation as, in its judgement, will be helpful to the work and improvement of our school

Article III: Objectives

  1. To foster a mission spirit for the school so that more people may be brought into the body of Christ.
  2. To foster Christian education by bridging the home and school into a close relationship.
  3. To encourage parental involvement in the school.
  4. To organize social activities and opportunities to develop and promote a positive, family friendly Christian fellowship.
  5. To give our wholehearted support and encouragement to the Board of Education by providing suggestions and recommendations for the improvement of our school. 

Article IV: Membership

  1. St. John’s Lutheran PTL membership includes teachers, parents, and guardians of St. John’s students
  2. All members in attendance having voting rights
  3. PTL members who are members of St. John’s church or another congregation with the Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod who have children in St. John’s may hold elected membership.

Article V: Officers

  1. PTL officers shall include a President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
  2. The specific functions of the PTL officers shall include:
    1. President: preside over meetings, serve as primary contact, represent the organization in meetings outside of the school, and coordinate the work of all officers and committee heads. 
    2. Secretary: keep all records of the PTL, take and record minutes of meetings, and perform other such duties as might be properly prescribed
    3. Treasurer: shall keep accurate records of any disbursements, income and PTL account information.  The Treasurer will also present a financial report at PTL meetings and a final report at the end of each year.
  3. The Pastors will serve as spiritual advisors.
    1. They shall advise us on the religious matters and shall see to it that all our activities are within the precepts of our church.

Article VI: Elections

  1. The officers shall be elected annually by ballot vote at the last PTL meeting of the school year
    1. Elections will be done by secret ballot and require a majority vote of the members in attendance at the PTL meeting
  2. The Leadership Team will assume their elected position as of June 1st

Article VII: Meetings

  1. All PTL meetings are open to any interested parties and will be advertised in advance

Article VIII: Finances:

  1. The fiscal year for the PTL will coordinate with that of the school (July 1 – June 30)
  2. Funds expended within the approved budget amounts and paid for personally by a member may be reimbursed by the PTL with proper receipt documentation.
  3. Upon dissolution of the PTL, any remaining funds should be used to pay outstanding bills, with the remainder to be allocated at the discretion of the PTL, for the benefit of the school.

Article IX: Amendment:

  1. The Constitution may be amended at any PTL meeting by a majority vote of members present.  Notice of the proposed amendment must be given, in writing, at the previous membership meeting or at least two weeks in advance. 
  2. The amendment must be brought before the Board of Education for final approval.

Article X: Dissolution

  1. In case of dissolution, any assets of the organization shall become the property of the St. John’s Lutheran Congregation.
